With so much attention on the World Cup, there has been a lot of talk about goals…the soccer kind…goooooalllls! Although I’m not a soccer fan, I’ve been watching games, waiting to see one of those elusive goals.
OK, to be honest, I haven’t been watching closely…I’ve been working on my laptop, looking up only when something happens.
I have to admit, the action does pull you in. There is so much excitement generated by each goal, both on the field and in the stadium. With so few goals in each game, no wonder they celebrate after each one!
How does this relate to marketing for medical practices? If you want to win, if you want to be successful, you need to score some goals too.
How are you doing when it comes to goals? Are you setting goals? Are you reaching them? Are you celebrating achievements?
It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day issues of running a practice. Making it through each day can seem like an achievement in itself! But don’t forget to plan for the future, both the long-term and the short-term.
When you talk about setting any kind of goals, personal or professional, there is a formula to follow: the SMART formula – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely.
How many goals are you working toward? Do they follow the SMART formula?
GOAL: Get in shape
SMART GOAL: Go to the gym three times a week and lose fifteen pounds in the next three months.
GOAL: Increase the number of patients in your practice.
SMART GOAL: Increase physician referrals by 10% in the next six months.
Setting goals and achieving them shouldn’t be as rare an occurrence as goals on a soccer field. It should be an important part of your focus.
