We’ve all heard the cliche: “A Watched Pot Never Boils”
If we believe that a watched pot never boils, does the logic then follow that an unwatched pot WILL boil?
Well, YES, but in reality, an unwatched and unattended pot can be dangerous. It may not only boil; it may BOIL OVER!
Let’s think about social media…it’s everywhere! The online world connects to so many aspects of every day living. Take a look around you. You won’t have to look far to see a #hashtag to follow. It’s hard to ignore, but the question is, are you watching how it affects you & your business?
As a doctor, dentist, or business owner the realization is that patients and customers are finding you, reviewing you and choosing you via these mediums, whether you’re watching them or not. Is your office active on social media? Are you aware of the conversations going on there? Do you have an eye on that pot to see if it is boiling?
People connect to social media to help them make decisions. They spend time on Facebook, get notifications on Twitter, and look up reviews on Yelp. It’s easy. Decision makers have the information they need right at their fingertips,
Providing a good product or service is a staple of maintaining and growing a business or practice. Social media gives you direct access and direct responses to what your customers or patients like, dislike and want.
Are you paying attention to social media? The information is out there, regardless if you are noticing. Patients and customers will post information about your business whether you ask for it or not. Positive information posted on social media can be used to find out what you’re doing “right” and help grow your practice.
Conversely, ignored negative information can hurt your business. Organized monitoring and interaction with your patients/customers in social media can amplify the good and help minimize, manage and rectify the bad.
Ignoring social media can be dangerous…that unwatched pot may boil over. (And if you’re not watching, you won’t even know now what happened!)
