With more and more people finding services online, keeping your website up-to-date is a priority. Your site gives a first impression…make sure it is a good one.
When was the last time you visited your website? I recently attended a professional meeting where there was a prize drawing. The entry blank asked for email and website information.
I was shocked at how many people in management positions didn’t know their company’s website address…it certainly is a clear indication that they never visit! Knowing your online address is as important at knowing your street address. If you took a survey of your staff today, would they be able to direct people to your website? Do they know what information is available there?
Time for a website tune-up! Ask yourself – and your management team – these questions:
1. Is all information current?
2. Do all the links work?
3. Send some test emails…do the emails go through to the appropriate person?
4. Can visitors find the information they need easily? Address, hours, phone number, emails?
5. Does the website reflect your current offerings?
6. Does the website reflect your current staff?
7. Do you have testimonials that are recent and relevant?
Once you can answer all of the above questions, and you have made sure that the website is in good working order, the next step is to have your employees get to know your site.
Make up a quick website scavenger hunt for your employees. Ask them to locate key information so that they will navigate through the pages in a meaningful way. They might be surprised at what they will learn, and you may gather some insight from other points of view.
Invest time and energy into making sure your website is giving the right impression and the right information to visitors. Your website is a gateway to your business: keep it current, vibrant and active and it will pay off with increased traffic and increased business for you.
