Let your passion show.
When you show your passionate side, you open your business up to new audiences online. One of the best things about having an online presence is that you get to reach many people in a very personal way.
Ask yourself…what are you PASSIONATE about?
- Do you have a special project that you support?
- Does your staff do charitable work?
- Do you want to raise awareness on health issues?
- Is there a community initiative that you are part of?
Social media is a sharing platform. Give your followers something valuable and heartfelt to share. When you rally support for a cause, you can reach new audiences that may not have found you otherwise.

A local non-profit was collecting coats for the homeless. They were looking for businesses throughout the area where people could drop-off donations. By opening their lobby as a collection spot, a small business received free publicity by being listed on the promotional materials, website, and social media posts. It reached a large audience in the community, without spending any advertising dollars. They saw an increase in traffic coming through their front door. When people came in to drop off their items, they had a chance to look around and see what this shop had to offer.
An ophthalmic practice decided to support the Lions Club by actively soliciting donations for used eyeglasses. They asked their employees for ideas. One of the employees was active in the PTA of her children’s school district. The practice then partnered with the school district to collect donations of glasses in all ten of the district’s schools. The practice name was in front of thousands of parents, through flyers, emails & social media posts. By adding their website as a source of “more information,” their website traffic increased…and you know that Google loves active websites! They collected almost 300 pairs of glasses that first year alone, and set up a relationship with the school district – staff, parents & students – that continues today.
Employees had a “Denim Dress-Down Day” to support the American Heart Association. They promoted the event on social media, challenging other businesses to join in. By being the coordinator of the effort, the practice received attention on the Heart Association’s website and social media pages. They shared pictures of the employees on the day of the event. The employees then shared these photos on their personal social media pages. Considering that many of the employees had social media followers in the hundreds, this practice’s efforts reached thousands of people. Not only did they get lots of attention for the practice online, they received notice in the local newspaper as well!
